BLENDS, DIGRAPHS AND LONG VOWELS

The next step leading off the singular letter sound cards are combining letters to form blends, consonant digraphs, silent letters, soft letters, long vowels and other sound families which are Introduced in grade 1, 2 and 3.

Notes for Educators:

  • These cards are available in A4, A5 and A6 sizes.
  • These cards can be bought individually to make up a customised set suitable for the sounds taught in each specific grade.
  • More cards can be added to the set as more sounds are introduced in the higher grades.
  • Certain groups such as the long vowels are colour coded to make it easier for children to recognize which letter combinations make the same sound. For example, all the ‘long a’ letter combinations are colour coded in blue, the ‘long e’s’ in green etc.
  • If there are any sounds you require that are not listed below, that sound card can be created for you.
  • Changes to any of the designs or illustrations are possible to customise them more to the needs of your school.
  • All these cards are also available in Nelson Script.

Each long vowel group is colour coded.

Charts

A1 and A2 wall charts of the letter sounds are also available. These charts are customisable and can feature the selected sounds for each specific grade.

Chair Bag Charts

Smaller laminated A4 charts can be created which the pupil can keep in their chair bag and use as reference when needed.
These A4 charts are also great for home use for a child to use as an easy reference when a child is learning to read and write. The charts are strong, laminated and wipeable.
